Quick Problem Identification

Does this sound familiar?

Maybe your jaw feels tight when you wake up. Maybe you catch yourself clenching while answering emails, working, driving, editing, concentrating or scrolling. Maybe headaches have become so familiar that you have started treating them as part of your routine.

Maybe your jaw clicks when you eat. Your neck and shoulders always feel tight. You wake up with facial tension. You keep rubbing the same spot beside your jaw. Your upper body feels compressed after sitting at a desk all day.

Or maybe you know something feels off. You just cannot pinpoint exactly where the tension begins. Many people adapt to physical tension for so long that they stop noticing how much energy it takes to live around it.

Sweet Cheeks provides specialized, individualized bodywork focused on understanding those patterns and supporting greater comfort, mobility and ease.

You do not have to know what treatment to book.

Your job is simply to tell Lisa what you have been experiencing. You do not need to determine whether your discomfort is coming from your jaw, fascia, neck, posture, ribs, diaphragm or something else before reaching out. Lisa listens to your concerns, asks questions, considers your patterns of tension and movement, and builds each session around what your body needs.

Education

What is TMJ?

The temporomandibular joints, or TMJs, connect the lower jaw to the skull. You use these joints constantly when you speak, chew, swallow, yawn and move your mouth. When someone says they have TMJ, they are often referring to temporomandibular disorder, or TMD, which can involve discomfort or dysfunction affecting the jaw joint and the muscles surrounding it.

  • pain or soreness around the jaw
  • clicking or popping
  • difficulty opening comfortably
  • clenching
  • grinding
  • headaches
  • facial tension
  • discomfort near the ears
  • tension into the neck and shoulders

Bruxism

Do you clench without realizing it?

Bruxism is the term commonly used for grinding or clenching the teeth. Some people notice themselves clenching during stressful moments or intense concentration. Others primarily grind while sleeping and may only recognize the pattern because they wake with jaw soreness, facial tension, headaches, tooth sensitivity, tightness around the temples or neck tension.

You may clench while

  • working
  • driving
  • editing
  • answering emails
  • scrolling
  • concentrating
  • working out
  • having a stressful conversation

Modern life gives us countless opportunities to hold tension without realizing it. Lisa's jaw-focused therapeutic work addresses muscular tension around the jaw while considering related structures of the head, neck and upper body.

Your body lives in the modern world too.

We spend hours looking at screens, sitting at desks, holding phones, commuting, concentrating, carrying stress and repeating the same movements. None of these behaviors automatically means something is wrong. But prolonged positions and repeated tension patterns can leave many people feeling stiff, compressed, sore or chronically tight.

SCREEN TIME

Hours spent looking at laptops, phones and tablets may mean long periods in the same position through the neck and shoulders.

STRESS + CONCENTRATION

Some people unconsciously tighten their jaw during intense concentration, stress, driving, deadlines or emotional situations.

DESK WORK

Long periods of sitting can leave the shoulders, neck, torso and upper body feeling stiff or compressed.

SLEEP

Some people wake with jaw soreness, headaches or facial tension associated with nighttime grinding or clenching.

REPETITIVE MOVEMENT

Work, exercise, caregiving, creative work and daily routines can create repeated movement patterns throughout the body.

THE TENSION YOU STOPPED NOTICING

Sometimes the most persistent discomfort becomes the easiest to normalize.

Just because you have learned to live around discomfort does not mean you have to stop looking for ways to feel better.

The Body Is Connected

Jaw pain does not always begin at the jaw.

JawNeckShouldersRibsDiaphragm

One of the defining features of Lisa's approach is that she does not treat the body as a collection of unrelated parts. A client may arrive because their jaw hurts. But they may also have chronic shoulder tension, neck restriction, headaches, shallow-feeling breathing, postural compression, rib restriction or longstanding fascial tension.

Instead of automatically treating only the area where discomfort is felt, Lisa considers how multiple structures may be interacting. Every session is individualized.

Client Journey

What a path through care can look like.

Illustrative Client Journey

Illustrative Example

I thought the headaches were just part of my life.

A client reaches out after months of waking with jaw soreness, experiencing tension headaches throughout the week and constantly feeling tight through the sides of their neck. They work at a computer for long stretches and notice stressful deadlines often leave them clenching their jaw.

Lisa begins with a conversation. Rather than jumping immediately into treatment, she asks about symptoms, daily patterns, previous treatment and what the client hopes to improve. Depending on needs and comfort, treatment may incorporate external jaw work, intra-oral massage, anterior neck therapy, fascia decompression or upper body work. There is no guaranteed timeline. Some people notice changes quickly; others with longstanding or complex tension may benefit from a longer process. The goal is less tension, greater comfort, more freedom of movement and better awareness of patterns that may be contributing to discomfort.

Illustrative Example

My jaw clicked. I never thought my neck had anything to do with it.

Someone contacts Sweet Cheeks primarily because their jaw has been clicking and their face constantly feels tight. During their consultation they also mention long hours at a computer, chronic shoulder tightness, headaches after work, feeling compressed through the upper body and shallow-feeling breathing during stressful periods.

Instead of automatically treating only the jaw, Lisa considers how surrounding areas may be contributing to the overall tension pattern. A customized session may include work involving the jaw, neck, shoulders, fascia, ribs and diaphragm. The purpose is not to assume that every symptom has the same cause. The purpose is to understand the individual more completely.

Illustrative Example

I didn't realize I was clenching all day.

A client initially assumes their jaw soreness comes entirely from grinding at night. After becoming more aware of their habits, they notice they also tighten their jaw while answering emails, driving, working, concentrating, scrolling, editing and dealing with stressful conversations.

That awareness becomes part of the treatment process. Lisa provides hands-on care while helping the client better understand patterns they may not have noticed before. Treatment is not about blaming you for your habits. It is about helping you understand your body more clearly.

These are illustrative examples and do not represent guaranteed treatment outcomes. Individual experiences vary.

You do not have to wait until the tension becomes unbearable.

It is easy to postpone care when discomfort becomes part of your routine. You adapt. You stretch your neck. You rub your jaw. You reposition yourself. You hope the headache passes. You wake up and do it again. Sweet Cheeks exists for people who are ready to explore persistent discomfort more intentionally and receive specialized, individualized hands-on care.

Philosophy

Science, skilled touch + individualized care.

Lisa has developed a deep appreciation for the complexity of fascia and the interconnected nature of the body. She recognizes that chronic stress and emotional experiences can sometimes occur alongside physical tension. Research exploring relationships between stress, emotional processing, connective tissues, pain and movement continues to evolve. Lisa does not present these relationships as a universal explanation for every symptom.

Her goal is to help clients

  • move more freely
  • feel less restricted
  • understand their tension patterns
  • experience greater comfort
  • reconnect with their bodies
  • develop greater awareness between appointments
